Website Validation!

If you own a website, one of the most important things to do, is make sure the code validates. This insures that a web browser can display your pages correctly. When I first started my website, I had no idea about code validation. When I finally learned about it, I had over 140 errors on my site. I started over from scratch, and recheck my code every time I make changes. Here is the validation site I use. You can check your html code, css, rss, and your p3p policy, all on this site.

New Website!

I changed web hosting companies to godaddy.com. So far I like it. They have great customer service and are inexpensive. I went form an Apache server to a Linux server. I had to change shopping carts, because Oscommerce is not supported by Linux. I am happy with my new shopping cart, Zen Cart. Zen Cart is much better then Oscommerce.

I also lost my forum, which wasn't much of a forum, but I was getting key word hits from it. Another thing that I might have a problems with is broken links. I have 174 missing pages now. I will have to figure out how to redirect them better.

Affiliates

The affiliate program I use is Commision Junction. It is safe to say that I just don't get it. I understand how it works and I have some adds up and running on my site, but I never get any revenue for it.

Before I redesinged my website, I had some ebay listing on the page. I managed to make $8.00. Now that I placed a banner on top of the page and made each affiliate a page of it's own. I haven't made a dime.

If you take a look, you can tell my landing page needs a lot of work. I need to change my keywrods and meta tags for the page, and add some better links. It wouldn't hurt to add a few descriptive paragraphs.

I am not sure how some people make a living off of affiliate programs, but I am going to try to make some conversion in the next few months. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

New Fishing Forum!

I finally created my own fishing forum. I am focusing my attention on the Ohio, Indian, and Michigan tri-state area. Please check it out,

I am going to focus my attention this summer on writing articles about the area's small lakes that I fish. I plan on using google map to show pictures of the lakes and directions to the ramp. I hope it turns out well.

Last summer I received my resale licence from the state of Ohio. Now I am an official business. If you are planning on turning your hobby into a business, be care full. I recommend getting everything you need in order before you submit your paper work.

This blog will be a discussion of how my business is going. I have created a my space page to meet people with an interest in fishing in my area, and I will use SEO and adwords to promote my site. If you have any questions or comments about running a small on-line business please contact me here.

I opened my own ebay store. I have listed all my fishing lures in the following catagories: Excalibur Fishing Lures, The Producers Fishing Lures, Mann's Bait Co. Fishing Lures, Matzuo Fishing Lures, Storm Fishing Lures, Reef Runner Fishing Lures, America's Fishing Lures, Kinami Baits Fishing Lures, Yo-Zuri Fishing Lures, Amikiri Fishing Lures, and MegaBait Fishing Lures. I have already made a few sales in one week. This week I am receiving a shipment of Rapala Fishing Lures as well as some others. I should have them up on my web site and in my ebay store by Friday.

I am also currently redesigning my web site. I am trying to add a nice picture and changing the page links as well. I have not completed the site map yet. I am waiting for my application to become an ebay affiliate, to be approved. When this happens I can advertise ebay items on my site just like google adsense. It has been about two weeks now, so hopefully it will be approved soon.

I have not had any business on my web site yet. I need to change my keywords I have listed in; inyahoo, ingoogle, and inmsn. After I make a few more sales I will list my site in a few more search engines, and hopefully I will get more traffic.

Site News and Promotion

I have been really busy on my website, adding new pages. I add a Fish Fry Tonight Guarantee! I also added a place where people can advertise their organization's or charity's Fish Fry! Another page I think people will like is, Catch of the day! This page will allow users to post pictures of their trophy catches. I have been working on a Site Map. The final page I added is Are you legal. All 50, Department of Natural Resources, sites are listed here.

I have bean doing some research in order to expand my business with more products, but I am still not quite sure what to sell. I am starting to understand the fishing lure and golf ball market on e-bay. I have been thinking about binoculars or gps units. The gps market on e-bay is really competitive, and most of the people are using drop shippers. I much rather have the product in hand when I put it up for auction. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
